Half day in Hoi An Ancient Town: Coffee, Shops & Style

A Half Day in Hoi An Ancient Town: Coffee, Culture & a Little Shopping Therapy

Hoi An is the kind of place where you can blink and suddenly it’s sunset. Between the lantern-lit streets, tailor shops on every corner, and that feeling of stepping back in time, it’s easy to lose track of hours. If you’ve only got half a day to soak it in, here’s the perfect little itinerary that combines caffeine, culture, and (of course) some very good shopping.

1. Start with a Coffee at Buttercup by Rosie’s Café

📍 12/9 Đ. Bạch Đằng, Cẩm Châu

Buttercup by Rosie’s Café is the kind of place that makes you want to order one of everything just for the aesthetic. Bright, airy, and with a perfectly curated menu that has something for everyone—it’s the perfect fuel stop before hitting the Ancient Town.

2. Stroll into UNESCO’s Ancient Town

From your coffee haven, wander straight into Hoi An’s core attraction: the Ancient Town, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999. The protected core zone spans over 30 hectares, filled with historic houses, temples, and tea-stained walls that somehow look perfect in every photo. Surrounding it, the buffer zone ensures the town’s charm stays intact.

Hoi An is a rare gem, described by UNESCO as “an exceptionally well-preserved example of a South-East Asian trading port dating from the 15th to the 19th century.” Translation? You’re literally walking through history with Chinese, Japanese, and European influences tucked into every wooden beam and tiled roof.

3. Pop Into Local Shops

Hoi An isn’t shy about its shopping scene. Tailors get all the press, but there are plenty of ready-made treasures waiting for you. A few stops to add to your wander:

  • Emma in Town – Souvenirs without the kitsch. Think jewelry, coffee mugs, hats, and trinkets that make great gifts (for yourself or others, we won’t judge).Photo

  • Jewelry Workshops – If you want more than just browsing, create your own keepsake. Try Lotus Leaf Fine Arts & Jewellery or Huy Minh Silver for workshops where you leave with something shiny and brag-worthy. Also check out the newest studio opened this year by jewelry designer Ryno Spence, Merfolk Hoi An.

4. Stop by Mui The Label

📍 5B Lê Lợi, Phường Minh An

Yes, this is the part where we casually (but not so casually) tell you to come see us. At Mui The Label, you’ll find handmade clothing and accessories measured on real women, sewn with fabrics like linen and viscose, and designed to flatter and move with you. We’re all about small-batch pieces that make you feel comfortable, confident, and a little bit smug for finding something truly unique in Hoi An.

5. Lunch with a View at An Hy

📍 59 Đ. Phan Chu Trinh, Phường Minh An

Wrap up your half day with a vegetarian lunch at An Hy, tucked along the river. Their Vietnamese dishes are hearty but fresh, and the view is just the right kind of dreamy for reflecting on all the treasures you’ve collected that morning.

Half a day in Hoi An flies by, but with coffee, culture, a little shopping (okay, a lot), and a riverside meal—you’ll have covered the best of what makes this town so special. And if you’re still around in the evening? Well, lanterns look good on everyone.

Ready to plan your trip? Come say hi at Mui The Label and take home a piece of Hoi An style that lasts longer than your tan.
